Maria Arusoo is an art critic, curator and artist (Marusoo) from Tallinn. Currently based in London where she graduated from Goldsmiths College of Art. In Tallinn Art Space Kunstihoone she is curating a large scale group exhibition “Continuum_ The Perception Zone” with such world famous artists as Olafur Eliasson, Martin Creed, Bernhard Leitner, Spencer Finch and many more. The opening of the exhibition will be this Thursday, August 25. Exhibition is open through October 2.
When and how did you come to the idea of this group exhibition?
The first impulse was in 2010, in Berlin, when I visited the Olafur Eliasson exhibition at the Martin-Gropius-Bau gallery; it left me with a haunting feeling of its physicality.

Järgmisel neljapäeval, 25. augustil kell 18 avatakse Tallinna Kunstihoones Maria Arusoo kureeritud näitus „Kontiinum_kunst kui taju. Ruum kui protsess”, millega püütakse olemasoleva ruumi, 1934. aastal loodud meie kunsti esindussaali, valge kuubi kaudu ning abil ergastada vastuvõtja taju, lõhkuda vaataja ja teose objektistatud suhet, sest tema valitud teosed pakuvad lausa n-ö füüsilist elamust, voolavad vaatajast ühel või teisel viisil läbi.

From August 25 to October 2, Tallinn’s Art Room (Kunstihoone) will host the ambitious group exhibition “Continuum_ The Perception Zone”, featuring a galaxy of international and notable artists: Martin Creed (UK), Olafur Eliasson (Denmark/Iceland), Bernhard Leitner (Australia), Spencer Finch (USA), John Wood & Paul Harrison (UK), Ceal Floyer (UK), Kiwanoid (Estonia), Daniel Kemeny (Czech Republic) & Marusoo (Estonia) and Toomas Thetloff (Estonia).
As the exhibition’s name indicates, perception will be at the center of attention. The exhibition’s curator, Maria Arusoo (1983; as an artist, she works under the alias Marusoo), hopes to create a dynamic show that is not seen as a binary relationship of subject-object, but rather as one that dissolves within the concept of “environment”. The room will become not only visible and tactile, but also sensitive to human actions, inseparable from the material substance of moving bodies that generate the room’s nature. How is this done? – works of art featuring light or sound will be exhibited.
